Decreasing the distance from the front plate of the Impeller to the pump bearing will only serve to RETRACT the impeller from the inside of the Housing, greatly reducing the efficiency of the pump. Those straight eight Chryslers were known to get hot and a big part of that was poor flow from the pump.
