WebIn cooler weather, clipped horses and ponies may need to be rugged. There are three medicines that are now used to treat PPID in horses and ponies. These are called pergolide mesylate, trilostane and cyproheptadine. None of these drugs is totally effective in all cases and some cases do not respond to treatment at all. WebCyproheptadine may be marginally effective at controlling clinical signs and is therefore not used as frequently. Supportive care is also important for enhancement of the quality of life of horses with PPID. High quality preventative medicine such as regular deworming, dental care and consistent farrier work has been advocated.
